Ditch the Crutches
Hello!
I mentioned last week that I had surgery on my foot. Since I am still using crutches and cannot wait to get rid of them, it got me thinking about the word “crutch.” A crutch provides support or reassurance.
– Someone can use the internet as a crutch for their loneliness.
– Overalls reinforced with leather are a crutch to take the chafing from riding in a saddle all day.
In my current experience, crutches are a lot of work. They are helpful to get me around, but they wear me out physically.
Things we lean on and use as crutches when living life have the same effect. They can be helpful, yet maybe not so beneficial.
– Smartphones are designed to keep people connected with others, but can also be used to avoid social awkwardness.
– Vaping or smoking. Some people light up not because they need to, but because they just need something to do with their hands.
– Some people wear headphones to listen to music, others wear them and don’t listen to anything at all. They don’t want to talk to people.
Life without crutches
A whole new world opens up if you can gain self-confidence to just be yourself and be fully present with others. I invite you to try dropping one of your crutches for a day and see what happens!
Blessings,
Debbie
