Behind the Valentine

Happy Valentine’s Day! A few days early.

Did you know that Valentine’s Day began as an ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, celebrated on February 15? It involved fertility rites and the pairing of men and women through lottery drawings.

Then, in 496 AD, Pope Gelasius I established the Feast of Saint Valentine on February 14, replacing Lupercalia, to honor Saint Valentine and his efforts to spread Christianity.

Valentine’s Day has continued to evolve over the years into a celebration of romantic love.

I enjoy the whole Valentine’s Day thing: wearing red hearts, sharing cards and gifts with the grandkids, and so on. My farmer husband, however, thinks it is the most stressful day of the year and can’t even begin to imagine why anyone ever made it up.

It just goes to show that God created each one of us differently, and perspective is everything.

I hope you feel the love this week!

Love you,

Debbie
