This week’s email discussed bioluminescent water. It is a natural wonder that is amazing.
Several years ago, our family was in Florida on vacation when we discovered bioluminescent water and actually witnessed it in person.
After a three-hour river kayaking trip, the guide invited us to visit a nearby bay that evening to see the bioluminescent water. Being native Kansans, the guide had to educate us on what he was even talking about.
With a totally spontaneous decision, we agreed and took our family, including all nine kids, out across a bay in kayaks when it was nearly dark. We really had no idea what this outing entailed. Not being able to see the kids was scary, and I prayed the entire time for safety!
Once in the canal that headed out to the ocean, the water that hit the point of our kayaks would break away in neon yellow. It was pitch black outside with only stars as light. The only way to find each other was to holler out names. We could see dolphins, alligators, and manatees swim by, outlined in neon. Fish would dart away from the shoreline in a neon cloud.
It was the coolest experience ever, and God kept us safe. That was the highlight of the trip for our kids. They still remember it today.
If you ever get the chance to see bioluminescent water, it is worth the effort.
Have a fabulous week!
